"Don't worry, kids. Some people think I'm just a dolphin." (via Facebook)
As anyone who has been paying attention knows, nature is horrifying. But while the rest of us were wisely tucked up in bed last Friday, recovering from our food comas, June Emerson took her 12-year-old son Quinn and a friend outside. Specifically, they went to Manhattan Beach to go surfing.
While the boys went out in the water, Mama Emerson stood on the shore and snapped the photo you see above. Later, she looked through her photos and saw what she (and many others) believe is a large and terrifying shark about 10 feet from her kid. Sightings of great white sharks are not unheard of near Manhattan Beach.
Emerson told KTLA, "Of course, I told my kids it was dolphin, as we live at the beach and are in the waters here almost daily.” In fact, some people in the comments on Gawker think the shark might actually be a dolphin, but I think they're party-poopers who hate amusing and awesome photos and want to ruin them for the rest of us. Jerks.
