Chris O'Dowd showed how to lose a Tony award like a boss. A boss who may have a drinking problem.
"Here's to losing."
Irish actor Chris O'Dowd was nominated for a Tony last night for his role as Lennie in Of Mice and Men. He did not win the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, but he did snag a win in the unofficial category of not letting a loss prevent you from having a good time. Immediately after Bryan Cranston was announced as the winner, viewers could see that, win or lose, O'Dowd had come prepared to enjoy himself.
O'Dowd certainly isn't the first actor to hit the bottle after failing to win an award, but this has to be some sort of record for losing and boozing. He may have also inadvertently coined a new drinking term for dealing with showbiz disappointment: "The Irish Tony Loss."
