LeVar Burton offended thousands with his Philip Seymour Hoffman jokes...and gained 1,000 followers.
You hosted 'Reading Rainbow' for how many years and still capitalized "y'all"?
Oh, LeVar Burton. If it wasn't for the Internet, you'd probably have faded from view by now. But the kids who loved you on Star Trek: The Next Generation and their younger siblings who grew up with you on Reading Rainbow are the ones who rule the Internet, and so we raised you like Lazarus back to prominence on a wave of nostalgia.
Then what did you do? You turned out to be an asshole, and made these comments on the same day Philip Seymour Hoffman died. You pissed off so, so many people. And at first, you didn't care:
To which someone might say "I'm sure he hated that, but he was addicted..."
Uh-oh. Didn't mean to step on your toes, there, LeVar.
LeVar Burton taking a strong stand on Hoffman being an asshole for dying.
I wonder if he gets Tweetdeck in his cybernetic visor.
Eventually, you relented:
Obviously, he gave in after losing so many followers to his dickishness...
But at what cost?
Oh, at the cost of gaining 950+ Twitter followers.... great. (via TwitterCounter)
So, there you have it folks. Make fun of the dead at your own risk...of reward.
